Happy Sunday!

Ok y’all, I have to admit – Part 3’s title in the picture above is part truth, part click bait…

While it did take just one gallon of paint  to paint the home office, it actually took two of us – my husband Greg and me – about 2 hours from start to finish.

But… for your viewing pleasure, I captured the full 2 hours in about a minute with time lapse video, thus the title. No need to thank me 😉

Check out the video, then we’ll get in to a recap of the past week and talk about plans for the upcoming week!

Now if only I could figure out a way to REALLY do all that in a minute!!

Week 2 Recap

I had planned to start painting on Tuesday, but life got in the way so Paint Day ended up being Saturday.

The day started off with a trip to the Big Orange Box store to pick up paint and supplies.

That’s my little sidekick Samson.  He LOVES The Home Depot, even though he looks a little bored in the first picture 😐

I bought the supplies I needed:

  • Purdy angle brush – $14.47
  • 9″ roller cover – $5.27
  • 4″ roller covers (2 pack) – $4.97 (I only used 1 of the 2 pack, so cost for this project is $2.49)
  • Blue tape – $7.97 (doesn’t count against the budget because we ended up not needing it)
  • Paint tray – $1.98
  • One gallon of Behr Marquee Paint in Sherwin Williams Repose Gray (Eggshell Finish) – $41.98

TOTAL COST: $66.19

With a $500 budget for this project, we now have $433.81 left after painting.

It wasn’t until I looked closely at the photo below (AFTER painting) that I realized the roller covers I used were 2 different naps: the large one had a 1/2″ nap and the small one a 3/8″ nap – oops!

While I was painting, I did notice a slight difference in application when switching between the two rollers, but the paint went on smoothly and evenly with both roller covers – no stippling or differences in appearance of the paint after it dried.

My Painting Must Haves

I already had the 2 items below on hand – I won’t do a painting project without these guys!

The Shur-Line paint can lid is awesome! It eliminates the mess of pouring paint – no paint dripping down the side of the can, which is a huge pet peeve of mine.

Just replace the regular lid at the beginning of the project, then as you need to refill your paint tray, shake the paint can, pop open the lid and pour, then snap shut when you’re done.

And The Paint Brush Cover makes storing your brush between coats a snap – literally (it snaps shut when you close it – get it? ?)!

I know, I know – you can use foil, plastic wrap, etc. and that’s what I always did in the past.  But I’m telling you, this thing is da’ bomb AND it’s reusable. If you do much painting at all, I highly recommend it.  The big box stores carry it or it can be purchased online.

[Note: I have no affiliation with Shur-Line or the The Paint Brush Cover people, whoever they are.  There are ZERO affiliate links in this post.  I just really love the products!]

The Paint

Behr claims that their Marquee paint is a one-coat coverage paint.  I was a little skeptical, having never used less than 2 coats on walls before.

But since I’m working with a $500 budget for this project, I figured:

1 Coat of Paint = 1 Gallon = Less Time = Cost and Time savings!

So I went for it 🙂

Let me just say – Greg and I were pleasantly surprised that the Marquee paint did, in fact, only require ONE COAT, and it turned out beautifully.

I’ll definitely use Marquee again – it’s a great feeling to finish that 1st coat and know that YOU ARE DONE!

Here’s a reminder of what the walls looked like before we painted:

And here they are now, after painting.

? ? ? I LOVE the way it turned out!

Have any of you used Behr Marquee or any other brand of one-coat coverage paint?

If so, share your experience in the comments below, OR on Facebook or Instagram for a chance to win this week’s HOMPOW (Home Office Makeover Prize of the Week).

What’s Next

Painting my home office Repose Gray gave it a much-needed face lift.  Now it’s time to build some stuff!

  • PART 1: Intro
  • PART 2: Design Layout and Select Color Palette for Walls, Furniture and Accessories
  • PART 3: Paint Walls
  • PART 4: Install and Paint Shiplap Accent Wall
  • PART 5: Build and Install Desk
  • PART 6: Refinish “Printer Stand” Dresser
  • PART 7: Build and Hang Industrial Shelving
  • PART 8: Add Accessories and Wall Decor
  • PART 9: Wrap-up and Big Reveal

My original plan was to install a full shiplap accent wall. But now that the painting is done, it pains me a little to cover up the beautiful gray 🙁

I’m toying around with the idea of building a large-ish shiplap wall hanging to put either above my desk or on the wall where the closet is, instead of nailing planks to the wall.

Let me know in the comments below, or on Facebook or Instagram if you’ve seen or done a similar project – I would love to hear about it!

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for… drum roll please…
